Hair Loss in Men - Star Hair Transplant

Hair Loss in Men

There is no known cure for hereditary male pattern hair loss – androgenetic or androgenic alopecia. The loss occurs on the crown, and top of the head as well as the hairline but the hair follicles on the sides and back of the scalp are not prone to shrinking.

There are currently two approved medicines (Finasteride (Propecia) and Minoxidil (Rogaine)) that help prevent hair loss in some patients but they have side effects, and do not work on all hair loss patients.

By the age of 50 half of the men experience hair loss to some extent. The results can be devastating for some, particularly those who start experiencing excessive hair loss in their 20s.

Hair industry has progressed and the hair transplant surgeries, especially FUE ones, are pain-free, and effective. Most male pattern hair loss sufferers are suitable for hair transplantation where the hair follicles are taken from the nape one by one and moved to the bald spots of the head.

Male pattern hair loss is not the only type of hair loss seen in men. There are also temporary and non-hereditary conditions and reasons such as Telogen effluvium where the hair loss is caused by hormonal or stress factors and is temporary.

Each hair loss requires a different treatment. It is best to seek medical help once you notice over 100 of strands of hair falling every day. Your doctor can then find the causes of your hair loss and implement a treatment accordingly.
